So what DO I do all day?
I mean it’s a fair question. If you’re going to pay a wedding coordinator, you’d probably like to know a little bit of what I do.
Here is a short list of things I have done on wedding day (or the day before) …
- Make sure everyone is running on time
- This is a huge part of my day. I’m constantly checking my schedule, seeing where we’re out, figuring out if something needs to be changed or hurried along.
- Perk: I get to see behind the scenes moments that not everyone is privy to
- Hand out flowers and pin boutonnieres
- Perk: This is such a fun time to connect with the bridesmaids and tease the groom and his men to make them smile and calm their nerves. It also gives me a chance to talk to the parents of both the bride and groom. It makes the day more personal for me and for them.
- Supply scissors, pins, tape, timetable, etc.
- Perk: I get to talk to a lot of people who want the same thing I do — for the wedding to be a beautiful success for the bride and groom.
- Run to the caterer on set-up/rehearsal day
- Sometimes things get missed, and this time, we didn’t have enough plates, cups and utensils to finish set-up, so on the way to rehearsal I ran to the caterer and picked up we needed. Then on wedding day, I quickly finished the set-up with the help of family of the bride and the bridal party.
- Perk: meeting local vendors
- Run the rehearsal and make sure everyone knows where they’re supposed to be the day of the wedding (and answer lots of questions)
- I get to work with the bride and groom so that everyone is standing where the bride and groom want and so that they get the ceremony that they want.
- Pull rose petals off flowers for the flower girl baskets
- Make decisions on whether or not to send someone to buy more creamer for the coffee bar
- Check with the couple throughout the day to make sure what they want to have happen: follow the original schedule or change things
- I try my best to make a “fool-proof” schedule, but reality is, sometimes things take longer or end up being more important than the original schedule and then I need to communicate with the people for whom the day was created and make sure that they get what they want.
- Perk: Seeing so many happy people and getting to be a part of what is hopefully the best day of the couple’s life
